what's new.

Week 1: start a blog.

Whats new :
I started a blog!  (but you already know that, because you're here reading it... and thanks for that.)  I'm definitely still navigating the ins and outs of the page design, picture upload, not sounding like I'm blogging a term paper business, but its a start.

I've now become obsessed with religiously checking said blog to see if anyone has commented, if I have any new followers, where the followers are from, how many people have viewed my page... you get the idea.  Its like I'm back in college waiting for Pete to post the cast lists. Well, except this time I'm not drunk.

There is a difference between talking a lot and having a lot to say.  As someone who falls into the first category quite a bit,  I've discovered the need to try harder to be in the second category.  Or, at least recognize the difference between the two.

Next week:
This one isn't for the faint of heart, and frankly it makes me the most nervous of anything I've decided to do so far.  I kept pushing it further and further down the list, but in the spirit of diving in head first... I'm going to do a cleanse.  Look, I don't mean I'm going to eat only baby food and seaweed, or drink only green sludge.  I do mean my days of food related joy may be numbered.

instagram.

I had added Instagram to my phone a few weeks ago, but hadn't really done anything with it until this week when I started 'blogging'.  It's essentially photo blogging in the form of an Iphone app.  You can snap photos, share them with friends, post them to your own photo feed, and peruse the thousands of photos added by other users.  Oh, and did I mention there are 12 different filters to choose from?  To find it search Instagram (Burbn, inc.)
P.S.  Its FREE!

mobile blogging.

Behold: The power of my cell phone, computer, an hour of work, and numerous codes and fixes...  Friends, I can now send pictures and posts, from my PHONE!  I had planned on taking the morning to read lots more blogs and look at other people's lay outs and posts to try and pin point the 'voice' of the blogs and maybe hone in on where I want to go.  Instead, I bring you a picture of my kitchen table!  A picture, and a request:  Are there any blogs that you really like or think I should like, look at, or follow?  Let me know!

I have a BLOG!

I'll be honest: I pretty much knew I didn't know much when it came to starting a blog.  In fact, I spent the better part of yesterday sitting at my little white kitchen table drinking coffee and staring at my trusty lap top.  To say computers aren't really my thing would be a cop-out.  I'm not an idiot.  I'm a 20something living in 2011 with digital cable, the afore mentioned lap top, an Ipod, wireless internet, and an Iphone.  I can turn my car on from my living room, tell you the weather literally anywhere in the world, and simultaneously play "We Built This City on Rock 'n Roll" on 5 different devices in my apartment at any given time.  This coupled with my almost crippling reliance on my Iphone for everything from directions to celebrity gossip and facebook updates is proof positive that I can not only understand technology, but I also use it on a daily basis.  So, I'm a little confused as to how it took me 8 hours to create what you see before you.  I started with a phrase, that turned into picking a back ground, and before you know it I was on hour five agonizing over whether Courier or Georgia was the font that looked vintagey enough, but not too country.  All while figuring out how to navigate between a profile, a header, a gadget, and a footer.  I did this before realizing (somewhere around hour six) that I was also going to have to actually write something before the hours and the key strokes and the agonizing over fonts could be considered a blog at all.  I ended up at hour eight with a page full of words, and work that I was actually proud of.  I don't think this blog thing is rocket science, but I do think it may take me just a little while to get comfortable.  So here's to the journey, and to learning something along the way.

The first.

The idea was to try new things.  A lot of new things.  It all started out of the realization that I'm a lot closer to 30 than to 20, and my intense fear that the 18 year old me would be disappointed with what she sees today.  My solution was to be healthier, or take a class, or move to New York, or find myself, or become a teacher, or drink more water, or have a cannoli.  The only problem is that eating a salad after yoga class while researching Uhauls and SoHo one bedrooms all while carrying around a grad-school catalog and a Nalgene bottle is difficult.  And overwhelming.  So after a quick freak out, (and lets be honest probably a cannoli) I decided my new plan would be to do most, if not all, and maybe more of those things. separately. One week at a time.
